I had a couple roles of B&W film with me, so I took some photographs of Jhaiji preparing the meal. I've been known to take photos of the preparation of food, as a way to learn how to cook the meals I enjoy so much :) Here, my grandmother is grating some fresh cauliflower. Here, her aged hands were in actuality as soft as a baby's skin. It was beautiful that there could exist such a cycle of life in the context of one's outer skin. The myriad textures in this image, plus the universality of a grandmother's hand make it a favorite for many who have seen this series. In India, where the vegetables are grown organically, and without a showering of chemicals, I was surprised at how savory and distinct each vegetable was in it's flavoring. I never imagined the delectible tastes that I encountered, simply due to the purity of the fruits and vegetables available. |
