May 15: 'Urban Peacock Tales: An Evening of Art, Poetry and Universal Journeys Through Time' at WORKS Gallery, San Jose, CA. World premiere event. Kavita shared her latest collection of poetry, new paintings and photographic installation explorations created during her April - May Artist Residency. WORKS Gallery

   

May 13: Poetry & Prose Reading at SomArts Gallery, SF, CA. Part of the AAWAA Exhibit 'Making Their Mark: Concepts, Visions and Narratives' by more than 30 Asian American Women Artists and Writers. Kavita read her 6 page poem 'The Horseman has Come'.

   

Feb. 22: 'Loadshedding' at the Grand Lake Neighborhood Center, Oakland, CA. An evening of south asian spokenword, music and more. Kavita shared her poem "The Horseman has Come"(2000).

   

Feb. 8: 'Mango Mic' at the PUSOD Space, Berkeley, CA. Public space for area poets to explore their latest works. West Coast premiere reading of Kavita's 6 page poem "The Horseman has Come"(2000) and "Tales of the Sequoias" (2002). House packed to standing room only.

Nov. 11 - 19: University of Nebraska's Artist Diversity Residency Program, Lincoln, NE. Kavita was the Artist in Residence, lecturing and sharing her art, films, poetry ('Evenings Slumber ' and 'Still Life') and design experiences from the past 15 years as an Indian-American artist growing up in the US since 1971.

   

Nov. 14 - 'An Urban Peacock's Cultural Discovery' - World premiere public reading of Kavita's 6 page poem 'The Horseman has Come' (2000) , screening of 4 films and detailed presentation of her 1987 thesis book 'Passages' at UNL. K's press release. Daily Nebraskan article (outside link)

   

August 5 : 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. 'My Grandmother Series' of Photographs were displayed with the poem 'Evenings Slumber'

   

April 29 : "Totally Locus: Explorations & Healing" part of the 'Sa-I-Gu' (4-29) event at LOCUS 1640 Post, SF, CA. Artists from around the US came together to share their spoken word art dealing with relationships between the Asian and African American communities remembering the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. Kavita read her poem 'The Conscientious Reporter' as an opener for this energized evening of Spoken word and Hip Hop.

2001   June 21-July 22: "Crossing Bridges", a community art exhibit project at CBS MarketWatch.com at the SF headquarters. Featured art by the Asian American Women Artist's Association. Kavita's Photography ( The Grandmother Series) and poetry (Evenings' Slumber) were exhibited.
1998   September: Shakti: Roots of Vision, Performance night & group exhibit at Works/ San Jose Gallery, San Jose, CA. Performance Night with Kavita Bali, featured original poetry on the LA Riots, 5 short films & silkscreen art
