Nov. 22 - Dec 3, 2005: '2005 Benefit Auction and Exhibition' presented by WORKS Gallery, San Jose. Over 200 regional artists supporting freedom of expression shared their art to help support our local, volunteer-run, nonprofit contemporary art and performance center. Kavita's 2004 painitng "External Fury: Environ... Mental... Smoke " was part of this exhibit. K's press

Nov. 23 - Dec. 4, 2004: '2004 Benefit Auction and Exhibition' presented by WORKS Gallery, San Jose. Nearly 190 of our region's most celebrated artists donated their works to help support our local, volunteer-run, nonprofit contemporary art and performance center. Kavita's painitng "Midnight Journey" was part of this exhibit. PR

   

October 9, 2004: 'AAWAA 15th Anniversary Celebration & Silent Auction' 7-9pm The Women's Building, Main Auditorium, 3543 18th Street, San Francisco, CA. Asian American women artists transform a wooden bowl, exploring their interpretations of the simple object, a universal object in Asian cultures. The bowls were generously donated by IKEA East Palo Alto.

July 12- September 24: 'Crossing Bridges' presented by CBS MarketWatch.com, San Francisco corporate headquarters. An Exhibition of current works by 19 members of the Asian American Women Artist's Assocition. On display: Angst into Dance, Blinding Waters, Digital Trash, Disco Under the Sea, Don't Call Me Desi/I am Tomorrow, Lotah, Marigold Fields, Summer (part of the 'Seasons of Life' series), and Bizerk.

   

June 30: 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. Kavita had almost a whole wall of her original paintings, including first time previews of her latest works. People's favorites included 'Digital Trash', 'Raging Rapids', 'External Fury', and 'Lotah'.

   

June 17 - August 14: 'AAWAA Group Exhibit' presented by d.p. Fong Galleries, San Jose. An Exhibition of current works by 19 members. On display: 'Winter Poppies' and 'Winter' (Part of the 'Seasons of Life' series)

   

May. 6 - June 5: 'Blue' presented by WORKS Gallery, San Jose. An Exhibition of current works members. Kavita's 'Digital Trash' ©2004, a piece where poetry and painting inspire each other.

2003  

June 16: 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. Kavita showcased her latest paintings 'Autumn', 'Summer', 'Summer II', 'Disco Under the Sea', 'Blinding Waters'. The place was packed with fellow Bay area artists, musicians and filmmakers. The band Viv was awesome as always. The painting that received the most smiles was 'Autumn', folks loved the blues and vibrant colors in this piece.

   

June 2 : 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. Original photography and ink drawings were on display / for sale at Viv's First year anniversary. The place was packed with fellow Bay area artists, musicians and filmmakers. People really responded to the grandmother series photographs :)

   

May 15: 'Urban Peacock Tales: An Evening of Art, Poetry and Universal Journeys Through Time' at WORKS Gallery, San Jose, CA. World premiere event. Kavita shared her latest collection of poetry, new paintings and photographic installation explorations created during her April - May Artist Residency. WORKS Gallery

   

May 8 - June 5: 'Relish' Member Exhibition. Works/San Jose Gallery. Kavita's painting 'I am Tomorrow' is on display. (Details about this painting)

   

May 7 - May 11: 20th Annual Meeting for the Association for Asian American Studies (AAAS), Conference in SF, CA. Kavita's photograph 'My Heritage, My Heart, My Soul ' was on display along with the art of other AAWAA members.

   

Jan. 13 : 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. Original paintings and ink drawings were on display / for sale.

2002  

Dec. 7 : Works/San Jose Gallery Silent Night Exhibition and Auction. San Jose, CA. Exhibited original painting 'Letting Go'.

   

Nov. 11 - 19: University of Nebraska's Artist Diversity Residency Program, Lincoln, NE. Kavita was the Artist in Residence, lecturing and sharing her art, films, poetry ('Evenings Slumber ' and 'Still Life') and design experiences from the past 15 years as an Indian-American artist growing up in the US since 1971.

   

Nov. 14 - 'An Urban Peacock's Cultural Discovery' - World premiere public reading of Kavita's 6 page poem 'The Horseman has Come' (2000) , screening of 4 films and detailed presentation of her 1987 thesis book 'Passages' at UNL. K's press release. Daily Nebraskan article (outside link)

   

Nov. 4 : 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. Silkcreen and original ink drawings were displayed. 'Birth of a Butterfly' was screened.

   

Oct. 24 : 'BAIDO organization's Fall Fund Raiser' held at ProArts Gallery in Oakland, CA. Kavita's latest paintings were on display at this event. 'Winter Poppies' and the modern Indian woman portrait 'I am Tomorrow' seemed to be people's favorite.

   

August 5 : 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. 'My Grandmother Series' of Photographs were displayed.

   

July 15 : 'Viv and a Movie' Red Devil Lounge, SF, CA. 'Birth of a Butterfly' screened and '3 Generations of Independence' was displayed. "Viv and a Movie" is just started this summer, it is a film and art series showcasing local Bay area artists (visual & film, musical)

   

March 8 - April 6: 'Ag:25works - Group Exhibit. Works/San Jose Gallery. Kavita's digital painting 'Three Generations of Independence' on it's premier public showing. See Kavita & her art.

2001  

December 9: Works/San Jose Gallery Silent Night Exhibition and Auction. San Jose, CA. Exhibited original ink drawing 'Twilight's Warmth'.

    December 2: Fort Mason Cultural Arts Center, San Francisco, CA. RISD/SF Show & Holiday Sale. Showcased & Sold Fine Art and photographic prints. Listing.
    June 21-July 22: "Crossing Bridges", a community art exhibit project at CBS MarketWatch.com at the SF headquarters. Featured art by the Asian American Women Artist's Association. Kavita's Photography ( The Grandmother Series) and poetry were exhibited.
    March 25: Art Judge for the 'Growing Up Asian in America' program at KPIX Channel 5 Studios presented by the Asian Pacific Fund. San Francisco, CA.
   

March 9 - April 7: 'Banter - Group Exhibit'. Works/San Jose Gallery. Kavita's ink drawing 'Court Jester am I' was on display.

    March 2: 'Cultural Perspectives' Gallery Talk at the 'RISD on the Road' Exhibit Opening. SF Atrium, San Francisco, CA. Kavita spoke on the impact her cultural heritage has had on her art, photography and printmaking. Press Release.
2000   December: Works/San Jose Gallery Silent Night Exhibition and Auction. San Jose, CA. Donation of the photograph "My Heritage, My Heart, My Soul' was sold to the highest bidder at the December event.
    December: Fort Mason Cultural Arts Center, San Francisco, CA. RISD/SF Show & Holiday Sale.
    August: Seybold Digital Art Gallery, Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA Showcased Digitally manipulated original montage 'Dance of a Distant Soul ' created at the Siggraph 2000 Conference in New Orleans, LA.
    July: Seven Voices - AAWAA group exhibit at the Chinatown Community Arts Program Gallery in association with the SF Arts Commission, San Francisco, CA. Showcased original B&W (The Grandmother Series' premiere, and Color Photography. AsianWeek.com
1999   June: They Hold Up Half the Sky: Redefining the American Art Landscape - AAWAA group exhibit at SOMARTS Gallery, San Francisco, CA. Showcased original B&W Photography and silkscreen art.
1998  

December: Fort Mason Cultural Arts Center, San Francisco, CA. RISD/SF Show & Holiday Sale.

    September: Shakti: Roots of Vision, Performance night & group exhibit at Works/ San Jose Gallery, San Jose, CA. Performance Night with Kavita Bali, featured original poetry on the LA Riots, 5 short films & silkscreen art
1987   May: Asian Arts Festival at Brown University, Providence, RI. Featured watercolor, pen & ink illustrations
    May: Woods Gerry Gallery at Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. Thesis Exhibition, featured original silkscreen accordion bound book depicting east/west journeys. This piece represents Kavita's beginning explorations of cultural heritage issues while growing up in the US.
1983   June Senior Year Art Exhibition. Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School, NY. Watercolor and Pen & ink drawings showcased, including 'Eternal Smile' (my last such illustration)
Awards    
2003   April - May Artist Residency. WORKS/San Jose Gallery, a cutting edge contemporary arts gallery. Kavita has been working on a new painting series, exploring photographic installation concepts, compiling a manuscript of poetry and working on ideas for a comedy/ new play as she continues to work on her first feature film script.

1983   June 2 New York State Art Teacher's Association Award ' Goal of Excellence in Art & Art Education', received at high school graduation ceremonies. Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School, NY
1979   Spring Gold Key Award for Ink Drawing. Presented by the 52nd annual regional scholastic arts program representing the Twin Tiers school districts. (Horseheads Junior High School West, NY)
1979   Feb. 4 Designed menu cover (ink drawing) for the 13th Annual Dinner Dance for The International Club of Finger Lakes Region, NY
1975   Summer GE Children's Art Contest winner for middle school age group, created a drawing dealing with energy efficiency alternatives for GE Corporation, Elmira, NY
1972   Spring Federation of India Associations of US and Canada (Drawing created at age 6 in 1971) International winner of Children's Art Contest, Maharani Award , Boyertown, PA
