The RISD on the Road: Printmaking and Photography exhibition presents the accomplishments of 43 artists exploring the various disciplines of printmaking and photography through 90 works of art. The artists have used a broad range of techniques from the traditional (intaglio and lithography) to modern (digital and electronic processes). Figurative, landscape, still life, and abstract imagery is depicted in work varying from intimate and detailed to expansive and bold. The artists are alumni from 1956 to the present, representing those that are established as well as up-and-coming talent. Over 260 alumni from a variety of majors submitted examples of their work to be considered for this exhibit. Two distinguished jurors, Philip Brookman, curator of Photography and Media Arts, The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and Ruth Fine, curator of Modern Prints and Drawings, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, selected the artists represented in the show. Criteria focused on work that demonstrates the creative excellence and diversity of RISD graduates as they explore printmaking and photography techniques, including intaglio, lithography, serigraphy, handmade books, handmade paper, black-and-white photography, color photography, xerography, and mixed media using photographic and/or printmaking processes. RISD on the Road honors and celebrates the achievements of RISD alumni and highlights the college'šs international presence. Throughout 2000-2001, this exhibition has traveled to many locations in the United States, including The New Art Center in Newton, Massachusetts, The Art Associationšs ArtWest Gallery in Jackson, Wyoming, the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Woods-Gerry Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island, and most recently, the Artemisia Gallery in Chicago.
