In May of 2002, I delved into acrylic painting, something I hadn't explored since 1984. 'The Sequoia Series' represents an agitated desire to get away from my previous contained B&W ink drawings and small format photography. Tired of the computer being utilized for so much in our lives, I felt a great surge of freedom when I ditched the mouse and keyboard and went to the roots of simplicity in creativity... my few paintbrushes, a large bottle of water and a blank canvas on my easel. I had bought this easel over a year ago at a Christmas sale, yet it took nearly 18 months before I was inspired to start upon this journey in simplicity. Here, it is just you and the paint. No computer errors or crashes or desires to check email. I created a peaceful haven in the corner of my living room to explore my emotions through paint, and thus began the journey. Right now I'm experimenting with acrylics. When I find a space where I can put my easel and not be disturbed by fumes of turpentine, then I'll start to play with oils :) Here I am exploring emotions as they unveil themselves directly from my mind's imagination straight onto the canvas. I wanted to explore color and texture and especially work in a large format. The act of working with the consistency of the paint was freeing in itself, allowing for an energized yet meditative sensibility during the process of creating. As I make them, I'll put them up on the site for your review and comments. INTERESTED BUYERS: please conact kavita@urbanpeacock.com to schedule a studio visit. (See Kavita's Painting Studio)
