Kavita Bali has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. Growing up in the US, she nurtured her passion for creativity. She first received her BFA in Graphic Design at the Rhode Island School of Design and later studied Film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in the early 1990's. In 1995, she jumped into the arena of the Internet. Since then she has been involved in the realization of complex information design and navigational systems, always seeking out solutions that integrated technological functionality with ease of use unified with an aesthetic elegance.

Kavita works in multiple media: film, photography, drawing, web design, exhibition design, poetry and most recently writing. She has exhibited her visual work at WORKS/San Jose Gallery, Fort Mason Cultural Center, Seybold Digital Art Gallery, Brown University, RISD's Woods Gerry Gallery and as a member of the Asian American Women Artists Association (AAWAA) at CBS Market Watch's 'Crossing Bridges'; Chinatown Community Art Gallery's 'Seven Voices'; and at SOMARTS group exhibition 'They Hold up Half the Sky: Redefining the American Art Landscape'.

Kavita's films have screened at (ATA) Artist Television Access in SF, WORKS/San Jose Gallery, NYU's First Run Film Festival and APAture 2001. Most recently she has founded urbanpeacock.com, a multi-faceted design studio focusing on User Interface Design and Conceptual Media Convergences while simultaneously cultivating and promoting cultural discovery through film and art. "Our mission is to help illuminate 1st and 2nd generation immigrant stories that deal with the interpretation of the essence of tradition and heritage as seen through the haze of a sometimes harsh 'modern' world. Our goal is to help empower the spirit through cultural discovery."

Kavita has written on issues of design, art and culture for publications such as LineZine.com, the Northern India Patrika and South Asian eZines. Currently she is pulling together the initial concepts and potential funding for her first feature length film to be produced in 2002. Kavita's art will be part of the upcoming '2001 Silent Night Exhibit and Auction' at WORKS/San Jose from November 30 through December 8th. She will also be at the Fort Mason Cultural Center on December 2 as part of the Rhode Island School of Design's Annual Holiday Sale. If you have a story you would like to bring to life or would be interested in collaborating on a film/art project, please contact Kavita at kavita@urbanpeacock.com.
